Posted some more pictures.

Threw some more photos on, from this last summer. Need to sync the camera and get the fall pictures off and uploaded. Gavin's arm is doing really well. I think he needs to wear the brace for another couple of days, but soon he will forgetting all about that.

Halloween and Camping

Well Gavin had a good time camping. We couldn't have a fire, due to local burn ban, but no the less Gavin enjoyed running around the woods. In a sense I'm glad we didn't have to worry about him with a campfire. We were well prepared for the cold night, but Gavin didn't see to understand that being bundled up was a good things.

As for Halloween, the first house that we knocked on, he tried to walk in the house when the lady opened the door. He didn't really understand that everyone was giving him candy. I'm sure now his expectations are set high when we visit you at your door. He will be expecting candy each time. He went as a little monkey. I'll upload pictures to flickr in the next few days. He really enjoyed seeing all the kids come to the door all dressed up. One kid's costume did scare him, I'm sure it won't be the last time.

The first injury

Well last Wednesday at Day Care a little girl stepped on his arm while playing. Well it broke his growth plate in his left wrist. He now proudly wears a very colorful splint on his arm. I'm not sure what a growth plate is, but the doctor seemed like it was okay. We kept asking him if his arm hurt. We would point to his wrist and say "ouch". Now Gavin has learn the word "Ouch" but he says now even when nothing hurts.

Another 2 weeks of splint and it should be okay. Maybe if ever remember I'll upload some pictures.

Update

Gavin is starting to use more words. Not quite sure what he is saying 100% of the time. But I can pick out the word yellow when I show him a yellow Uno card. He is almost 20 months old and likes to be disobedient. We have a couch next our living room's bay window, which he repeatably climbs in. When we are downstairs he wants to climb the stairs. I had a simple barricade up to block him, but the little bugger can climb over what I have. I guess we are going to have to buy a gate.

He is doing well in pre-pre-school (daycare). I am surprise how much they try to teach him. Every afternoon when I get home he comes running to the door for me to pick him up.

We are looking forward to going camping. Not sure how he'll do, but I figure he'll have fun.

Vacations, vacations

Gavin has been on vacation almost every weekend. He went to Illinois to see Grandparents, he went to the beach, then it was down to the lake, he'll be going done to Fairy Stone Park, and then down to Blacksburg. As parents we are pooped. I think I'm going to declare a "no going nowhere" weekend coming up. I have a ton of photos, but haven't had time to post them.

Someone is talking

Well besides, "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom" repeated over and over. Gavin has said "juice" and "bye-bye". Sometimes he points at something and utters "what is that" or maybe "look at that", I can't tell because it sounds like "wook at dat". Every once in a while I can get him to say "Uh-Oh" Next week I'll attempt to teach him to say his ABC's.

Appomattox Courthouse

Heidi's cousin is in town from out of state and we are going to take her to see the world famous site of Appomattox Courthouse. I know, I know. How can we handle all this excitement of the Appomattox Courthouse? I'm just sad that Gavin isn't old enough to remember and we will have to do this again in ten years.

I'm kidding, Appomattox isn't that bad. I've just been there like five time in my life and nothing has changed. Well maybe I'll be wrong. We'll see

Well Gavin got bit by a wasp yesterday on this lower lip, it scared us, since you never know if one is allergic to "bee stings". But he pulled through with a bloody lip. He is no longer a baby, full blown toddler with toddler attitude. He also wines a lot, which is Heidi's favorite. Oh we got him a sandbox with (300 pounds of sand). So once the heat dies down I'll take some pictures of him playing. Right now he likes to throw sand, so my yard will be a beach by next month.
We all had fun in Washington DC (from last week) so once I get around to get photos I'll post a bunch on Flickr.

UVa visit was good.

We had Gavin's follow-up visit at the doctor's office yesterday. We drove up to UVa and got a bunch of ultra-sounds done on Gavin. Everything inside Gavin look normal. The doctor was pleased. So then we went and got a really late lunch at Chico's. And since Gavin slept the whole way back, we stopped at Percival's Island. Gavin was having so much fun exploring the trail, that we only made it .25 a mile. Every ten feet he would stop walking and explore something.

Well Heidi is out of town so with much help from her father, we hung a new microwave over the stove. I think it turned out great. I took some photos so that Heidi can see them from where she is.

I was afraid it would hang down too low but I can still see the knobs on the stove when I stand next to it.

Good Weekend

It was a good weekend, but it went by too fast. Saturday we went Strawberry picking at Kinder Berry Farm in Appomattox, it was hot and manual labor wore off the novelty real quick. On Sunday we hike down to Apple Orchard Falls (and back up), then went to see the new Pirates movie, (We were disappointed with the movie), and finally ate Mexican dinner for our anniversary (6 years). On Monday I ran four miles and caught up with Heidi and Gavin at the pool. The water was too cool for Gavin's liking, but there'll be a next time. I uploaded a new movie and some photos on Flickr.

Currently Gavin is cranky since he has a bunch of teeth coming in. But only one more week and then him and Mommy will have the whole summer off.

Gavin loves to be outside

Gavin loves being outside. Last night I let him run around the yard and yell at the birds. Today we are going hiking so I grab some more photos. You can some what see my garden in the background. Gavin loves my garden (or rather my dirt), he likes to throw the dirt around.

Gavin falling asleep at diner. We had a long day between church, the park, working in the yard, etc. So he started falling asleep and I took this video. Also uploaded some photos. Click the photo link on the right to view. Didn't get the video of him doing sign language or walking around the yard, will do that sometime this week.

My Promise

I promise this weekend to upload photos and videos of Gavin. Got a video of him doing sign language for "more" and "please". I'll try to get a video of him walking around the yard since he still looks like someone who is really, really drunk. So hopefully I'll remember to do that at some point this Saturday or Sunday. So check back next week.

Snotty Boy

I am learning to deal with a snotty boy. Every time I look down at him, he got a boogey hanging out of his nose. There's not much we can do to help him either. Can't give him any medicine for it till he's two. So all night we struggles to breathe. I feel really bad for him. But Heidi is off next week (Spring Break) so that should give them plenty of time to rest. We'll be generating some photos this weekend with it being Easter and visiting the families. Fun fun.

Loving the spring time

After last week of him being sick, we were glad to be out this weekend. He helped me in preparing our garden. Mainly pulling dirt out of my garden boxes and dropping it on the ground or attempting to eat strange things he found in the dirt. Gavin likes to hand me things that he finds on the ground, like; White Oak leaves, acorns, and twigs. I dug up a worm and handed it to him, he dropped that too. I guess he doesn't like worms. But in all he was my little helper this weekend, and will be for the rest of the summer.

Five Steps to a Whole New World

Well we have heard reports from the baby sitter that Gavin took a few steps the other day. I noticed on Friday night he took an unaided step from the coffee table to the table. But on Saturday night Gavin took five steps from the couch to me. It was a wobbley (sp?) stagger but he did it in front of Heidi and I. Of course we hadn't been able to reproduce it again. The most I can get him to take is two steps before he wants to drop and crawl. But it should be soon. Maybe next weekend we'll work with him more. Also we discover his "I want that!" look when he sees balloons in the store. He also points at things now, kinda funny.

He is also either sick or teething in more teeth, most likely both. This weekend we have a very cranky baby on our hands. If he walks again I'll tape it and throw it up on the video section.

Standing Up

We are seeing glimpses of Gavin standing up without aide of the furniture. Though it is for only a brief moment, it still really cool to see him do that. He is acting more and more like a toddler and less like a baby. Balloons are his favorite toy at the moment, but since he likes to bite it, we have to take them away if we are not playing directly with him. He still wants Heidi's hair brush if he sees it. Climbing up stairs is nothing for him now. He'll even climb down if we let him. The last time I took him outside he was too young to really crawl around, so I'm excited for the temperature to rise so we can play in the dirt/grass.

Birthday Party

Gavin celebrated his 1st birthday by traditionally consuming and/or playing with a birthday cake. He didn't tear the cake apart as fast as I thought one would do, but actually I felt he was a little confused about what was in front of him. But after a little bit he a full on mess. We just did a small birthday party with our family. I put photos up on our Flickr account and have a video on Youtube.

Almost a year

Well we've been busy with this and that. I noticed I didn't even post pictures from Christmas. He got a lot of toys. It is really neat to see him develop and start to play with his toys differently. He'll babble a lot more now, and if I imitate him, it can go on for a good twenty minutes. Bath time has become a splashfest. If I put a little too much soap in, we get lots of bubbles, but he tries to eat them so Heidi disapproves too much bubbles. Anyway we are going to celebrate his 1st birthday this weekend. I'll post the always famous "cover in birthday cake photo" when it happens.
